Queen’s jubilee visit shows pride of CorbyPosted: June 18, 2012
The Queen’s visit to Corby was a great occasion. People have mixed views about the monarchy but the Queen herself has gained the public’s respect for the way she has carried out her role. This was very much in evidence when she came to town this month and crowds lined the streets. It was a celebration of Corby, and in particular the recent improvements in the town. I attended the performance at the Core Theatre, given for the Queen, of the show called Our Town. The musicians, dancers and singers involved gave a great account of Corby’s rise as a steel town, the difficulties of the steel works closure, and the way that Corby has been on the rise again lately, with lots of investment. The new look town centre, with iconic public buildings, and attractive open spaces, was a great place to host the visit. It showed how much Labour and co-operative councillors and a Labour MP can achieve together.
