Rail fares to rise again

rail fares v2

It has been announced that regulated rail fares will increase by 3.5% in 2015.

This rise could add another £259 to a Corby to London season ticket. David Cameron has already allowed train companies to sting passengers with inflation-busting fare rises of over 20%, so these further increases are another blow to working people in Corby and East Northamptonshire.

We can’t go on like this. A Labour government will cap annual fares on every route and enact the biggest railway reforms since privatisation, delivering a better deal for passengers and taxpayers.

I am also campaigning for service improvements and cheaper car park prices at Corby station.

  1. Neil Wise says:

Excessive rail fares charged by East Midlands Trains was a major element in my deciding to take VEDS fron NOMS in late 2011. This was following the closure of Crown House and the relocation of staff to Peat House in Leicester in 2007. I was an AO and my annual slalary pre tax only just topped £20k but even back then in 2011 an annual season ticket was approaching £2000 between Corby and Leicester via Kettering. Add to that bus fares to connect between Weldon and Corby/Kettering station of £840 per annum and it is not hard to see that these costs are far beyond the pocket of junior Public Sector workers like I had been.

  2. John Hunter says:

I do believe that Car parking should be free for those that hold a season tickets . As this a lot of money out any person pocket No matter what they get paid But Then I’m for taking the railway back under the Government control
