Petition to save the Children’s heart surgery unit at Glenfield

Many people in Corby and East Northamptonshire have been in touch with me about the closure of the children’s heart surgery unit at Glenfield.  We all know someone whose child has been helped there and it is deeply worrying that in future children may have to go to Birmingham or even further away when they need heart surgery.    I am shocked that the Tory government are cutting Glenfield, and many other specialist heart units around the country.  270 children’s heart operations take place at Glenfield each year and the centre serves 5 million people across the East Midlands.   As a parent, I know that there is never a more worrying time than when your child needs to go to hospital, and you want the best possible care to be available as close to home as possible.  I will continue to fight against this closure and would urge you to do the same.  One way you can help is to sign the e-petition that has been set up on the Downing Street website.  There are now over 45,000 signatures.  If it gets to 100,000 the issue will be debated in Parliament.   You can sign up here
